Alex WentzStand-up comedian Hannah Berner has been trending on social media this week due to comments she recently made about Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce.
While on Netflix’s “Torching 2024: A Roast of the Year,” Berner made a joke that compared Kelce to alleged UnitedHealthcare CEO assassin Luigi Mangione.
She said, “Luigi is so hot right now. Who knew – besides Travis Kelce – that you could become so popular with women by shooting loads into a billionaire?” Obviously, that joke didn’t sit well with Swift’s fan base. Over the past 24 hours, Swifties have blasted Berner on social media for making such a “vile” joke about the Grammy Award winner.
This is actually the second time in the past few weeks that Berner has received backlash for a joke she made. Last time around, people called her out for dissing actress Blake Lively.
Ironically enough, Lively is close friends with Swift. “The word ‘[expletive]’ was trending this year. I don’t think Blake Lively was that bad,” Berner said.
Berner has not yet retracted her joke about Swift and Kelce. She did, however, apologize for her joke about Lively. That’s because she has now found out that Lively is suing her “It Ends With Us” co-star Justin Baldoni for sexual harassment and allegedly orchestrating a smear campaign.
“My joke in the Netflix roast was filmed before news of the lawsuit,” Berner said. “To be 100 percent clear, I support Blake xoxo.”
Perhaps we’ll see a similar statement from Berner in the future. At the end of the day, comedians are going to offend people. That’s just what they do.
If Swift isn’t bothered by Berner’s joke, maybe her fans should just let it slide. Berner, a rising star in the comedy industry, had her own stand-up special released on Netflix. It premiered at No. 2 on the charts. We’ll see if all this drama actually ends up helping her brand.
